Race Report 05/03/17 - Cambridge Half, Dunerunner, XC

There I was thinking, well, after last weekend's amazing running they'll all be having a well earnt rest this weekend, feet up, lazy Sunday lunch and papers etc..... Not much of a race report to do... Not only was I wrong, I was VERY wrong!  Let's see....parkrun, Cambridge Half Marathon, Nelson Knee Knobbler, Hunny Bell Cross Country, Malta Half Marathon and the little fact of Norwich Road Runners representing Norfolk at the Essex 20 Mile Inter Counties Championship!

So, without further ado....

The Cambridge Half Marathon is one of those really popular ones which sells out very quickly and a number of Norwich Road Runners were quick enough off the draw to get their lucky places.  A fast course certainly proved itself with some fantastic times from the NRR team, well done everyone - I think a few of us will have our eyes on that for next year.

If you never experienced a Nelson Knee Knobbler (yes you did hear that right), organised by Dunerunner then it is certainly one for your list. Challenging, hard work, fun and a pretty nifty medal to boot. The races are usually through the sand dunes and on the beach, however they also organise a XC later in the year.  Also, watching all the dogs and owners wait to set off in the canne cross is really a sight to behold. Anyway, I digress, we had a hardy bunch head out to Wells for this instalment, choosing between 5km and 10km through the dunes and woods and back along the beach, including at least one very VERY steep hill. Congratulations to Ben Freeman, who came in first place in the Men's 5km race (albeit running under Dunerunner but we won't quibble about that!) and congratulations to Nick Gurney who was hot on heels taking second place in the 5km.  Simon Wright (also under Dunerunner this time) picked up 2nd place in the 10km. Very well done everyone who ran. It certainly looked like hard work, especially in the wind and rain which kindly made an appearance just as the race started!

The Hunny Bell XC on the Stody Estate always draws in the runners and we had another good contingent of NRR make their way over to tackle that tough XC and it was Sarah-Jayne Lumley's first race as a NRR! Welcome and well done!  Well done everyone too.

Lucky Danielle Crane enjoyed the sunshine in Malta as she completed the half marathon in a PB time of 2.08.23.  Well done Danielle, we're not jealous of that sunshine at all!

As usual, NRR proudly flew the flag at the following parkruns: Norwich, Bury St Edmund, Peterborough, Catton, Brundall, Rutland Water and Holkham! Fantastic!

...and finally, but by no means least, we're very proud to say that Paul Blazey represented Norfolk in the team at the Essex 20 Mile Inter Counties Championship. Very well done.

Well done to everyone for such another great weekend of running, I think a rest might be in order.... Oh no, hang on, it's the Broadland Half Marathon next Sunday! See you there.
