Wroxham 5k Series - Race 1

Wroxham 5k Report - Race 1

The first of the Wroxham 5k series was held on Wednesday evening on the 16h May at Broadland High School. A race with a long history and a course which has great potential for a PB with its mostly flat course profile, the runners lined up just before 19:15 along Tunstead road.

A slight delay in the start was unfortunately had due to traffic entering the authorised road closure section, but once cleared the race was underway with a field of strong competition.

Being a 5k event the finish was tight amongst the front runners with Callum Stanforth of Ryston Runners taking the overall victory with a brilliant time of 15:58.  Runner up was Gary Crush of City of Norwich AC and Robert Chenery coming home third for Ipswich Jaffa RC.

In the ladies results the honours went to Abigail Durand from North Norfolk Harriers in just the 16 and under category in a time of 17:20.  Ladies runner up went to Mabel Beckett from City of Norwich AC and third place was Jo Andrews from Bungay Black Dog RC - well done to you all.

For the team results that went to the following:-

Mens Senior

City Of Norwich AC

  • Jack Adcock
  • Will Browne
  • Jamie Stares

Mens Vets

 Norfolk Gazelles

  • Alan Hume
  • John Moore
  • James Fowler

 Ladies Senior

City Of Norwich AC

  • Mabel Beckett
  • Leanne Finch
  • Holly Bunn

Ladies Vets

In total there were 554 finishers.  Thrusted into the role of Race Director just a few weeks ago, Jodie Causer was overall very happy with how the event went and preparations now begin for the second race.  A very big thank you to all the volunteers that helped on the night.

Finally, the Norwich Road Runners social committee also kept the spectators and runners after the race well 'refreshed' with their popular charity cake sale stand.  All the donations raised went to the charity The PSPA.
